China’s Tobacco-control Association (CTA) published a new report with a finding that only 16 out of 800 colleges that it had investigated were implementing any kind of anti-smoking measures and the administrations of the aforementioned colleges were much too lenient towards smoking, says the China Daily.
Vice director of CTA Xu Guihua said each of their revealing investigations was recorded on video and CTA had not contacted the administration of the colleges in question prior to its inquiry.
The report also states that researchers found cigarette butts at 73.2% of campuses, particularly in the male student dormitories.
The report said that the probe was based on whether colleges had anti-tobacco billboards, ashtrays, no tobacco advertising on campus, outdoor smoking zones, rules to prohibit smoking on campus and cigarette butts in indoor areas.
